Be Part of the Young Tongues Community

Young Tongues is powered by people who care deeply about improving life for younger individuals affected by tongue cancer.

From sharing lived experience to volunteering time or professional skills, every contribution helps strengthen the support we provide and the change we are working to create.

Whether you are a patient, supporter, clinician, researcher or simply someone who wants to help, there are many ways to get involved.

Help Build the Young Tongues Patient Hub

We are currently developing the Young Tongues Patient Hub — a new online resource designed to provide clear, practical and trustworthy information for younger adults navigating tongue cancer. This project is being co-created with our community and reviewed by clinicians to ensure the information is both compassionate and reliable.

We are inviting patients, carers, clinicians and researchers to contribute to this project. By sharing lived experience or professional expertise, you can help shape resources that provide clear, practical guidance for those beginning their tongue cancer journey.

Join Our Podcast

Our podcast brings together patients, carers, clinicians and researchers to talk openly about life before, during and after tongue cancer.

We are always interested in hearing from people who would like to share their story or expertise.

If you have lived experience, professional insight, or an important perspective to share, you may be able to join us as a guest.

Become a Trustee

Young Tongues is guided by a board of trustees who provide strategic oversight and help ensure the organisation continues to grow sustainably.

From time to time, we welcome new trustees who bring skills, experience and perspectives that can strengthen the charity.

If you are interested in helping guide the future of Young Tongues, we would love to hear from you.

Testimonials

“We had the pleasure of hosting Barbara Fountain, CEO of Young Tongues, at the recent European Congress on Head and Neck Oncology (ECHNO2025). Barbara is an inspiring public speaker with the remarkable ability to engage both healthcare professionals and the wider public. Her courage in the face of adversity, candid discussions about her personal experience with cancer, and her infectious positive energy make her truly exceptional. Barbara uniquely brings the patient perspective to her presentations, serving as a powerful reminder of the importance of collaboration with patient groups moving forward. We look forward to potential opportunities to collaborate with her at future speaking events.” Make Sense Campaign Steering Committee and Secretariat

“Hearing the real-life impact of treatment from the Young Tongues Patient Expert group was invaluable, especially for strengthening our grant proposal around personalised medicine in head and neck cancer. The group’s willingness to share honest, hard-hitting experiences – even on a weekend – deeply enriched our application. Although we weren’t shortlisted, their input helped ensure our work stayed patient-focused. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Young Tongues Patient Expert Group service to any researcher or clinician seeking meaningful, motivated engagement with the tongue cancer community.”  Sean Porazinski, Principal Investigator

“Barbara is a fantastic collaborator, she presents key data on experiential facets of head and neck cancer and leads an incredible group, advocating for individuals. Barbara is enthusiastic and a brilliant presenter, we are so grateful to work with her.” Camilla Dawson, Consultant Speech and Language Therapist about the European Head and Neck Cancer Course, Birmingham
